S SET CLINIC is the only clinic in Tokyo specializing in male infertility. Making the decision to seek advice on fertility issues can be daunting and nerve-racking, particularly for men, but male factor infertility matters: it is thought that about half of all infertility cases are due to male factors. Against this backdrop, our group of male doctors led by our Director, Dr. Kazuo Sato, the former Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, aims to provide personal and caring consultations and treatments. Two of our doctors are specialists in the field of infertility and are certified by the Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine. They are two of the 41 urologists certified as infertility specialists in Japan.
S SET CLINIC uses the most advanced technologies in the field of male infertility. These technologies were developed at universities and other research institutions. One example is the latest technology, domestically available only at S SET CLINIC, which permits selection of the best sperm from a given sample through DNA staining and tests of mitochondrial integrity. Another example is our unique technology for safely banking selected sperm, which has dramatically decreased the risk of damage to sperm during the freezing and thawing processes. We believe these technologies contribute to ensuring the safety of mothers and their expected babies as well, which is the single most important goal in fertility treatments.
First, by appointment, our patients receive clinical consultation and undergo examination, in which we review their clinical history and consider the possible causes of infertility. Then, according to the patients’ requests, initial clinical investigations on sperm and blood samples are conducted. We assess not only the movement (motility) and shape (morphology) of sperm, but also
check for possible damage to the DNA (DNA fragmentation). Depending on the test results, we then discuss the best possible treatments for each patient, such as medical or surgical treatments. If applicable, we consider clinical treatments such as artificial insemination (AI), in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET), or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Sperm
freezing and storage can also be an option.
(S SET CLINIC specializes in male infertility, but we collaborate with gynecologists at experienced clinics for issues regarding female reproductive health throughout these procedures.)
